the works are going on incessantly. The donations I brought from Italy have been very fruitful.

The following is a list of what has been done since I got here two weeks ago:

1.    The construction of the second block including the roofing has been completed. The roofing caused some additional work because it had to be joined to the existing one covering the classrooms

2.    The whole building (block 1 and block 2) has been wired

3.    We have already filed the application with the electricity company to have power. Today, their technician came to survey the wiring and see where install the new pole to connect us to the existing line. He found the wiring ok and soon we’ll be having power in the whole building

4.    the second block has been floored – this block includes the big room where the training courses will be held plus 4 smaller rooms for the offices of both the school and the Foundation. In these latter, they also built the ceiling

5.    doors and windows in the second block have been installed. Moses and I are, little by little, painting them “forest green” a deep and bright shade of green, just as the greenery that’s surrounding us

6.    we have already bought the glasses that will be fixed as soon as the works are finished.

7.    The veranda all around the building has been completed and floored.

We are almost there!!

Our program, as soon as the works are completed, is to clean the area from all the materials and the building scraps and leftover and then organize a big party to celebrate the first year of activity of the pre-school and the forthcoming starting of the training courses.

We want to invite the local authorities and representatives and all the parents of the children attending the school. The children are rehearsing some dances to be performed during the party to show their parents how much they like going to school!

Yesterday, Moses and I had an important meeting. We were guests at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club in Jinja.

The Rotarians meet Wednesdays afternooon at the Crested Crane Hotel in Jinja.

The room was packed with more than 50 people. When the Lady President asked me to introduce myself, I was a bit nervous. After greeting and telling everybody my name, I told them I was there as the Ambassador of Rotary Club Lunigiana, I wasn’t a Rotarian myself. Then, straight to the point: I was there to deliver the Lunigiana Club’s banner which they entrusted me to deliver and to deliver a report I had prepared on the Project and the Foundation, its aim, what we have done and what we want to achieve. I emphasized that if Rotary Jinja will support the project, Rotary Lunigiana will join forces with them and support it as well.

The Lady President promised to read the document carefully and let me know the out come before I’m scheduled to return to Italy.

I keep fingers crossed!

And it’s still burning hot here…..

I lavori continuano senza sosta. Le donazioni portate dall’Italia sono state messe a buon frutto.

Per ricapitolare, dal giorno successivo al mio arrivo sino ad oggi – sono trascorse due settimane e…

1.    Finita la costruzione del secondo blocco, incluso il tetto risultato un po’ problematico vista la comunicazione con quello del blocco delle aule

2.    Fatto l’impianto elettrico in tutto l’edificio (le 3 aule incluse)

3.    Fatta già la richiesta per l’allaccio dell’elettricità e, proprio oggi, è uscito il tecnico per il sopralluogo ed il controllo dell’impianto eseguito. Tutto ok! E, presto, ci sarà la corrente

4.    Fatti i pavimenti del secondo blocco che include la sala grande per i corsi e i 4 locali degli uffici. Questi sono stati anche soffittati

5.    Installate porte e finestre nel 2° blocco che, piano piano, Moses ed io stiamo dipingendo “forest green”, un bel verde brillante ed intenso proprio come il verde naturale che ci circonda

6.    Già acquistati i vetri che saranno installati a fine lavori

7.    Fatta la veranda (tutto lo scavo perimetrale ed il pavimento)

Ci siamo quasi!

Il nostro programma, appena finiti i lavori e liberata l’area da tutti i materiali ed i residui di cantiere, prevede di organizzare una festa per celebrare non solo l’anno di attività della scuola materna, ma anche la fine dei lavori ed il prossimo inizio dei corsi di addestramento. Prevediamo di invitare le autorità locali e tutti i genitori dei bimbi che frequentano la scuola. I bambini si stanno preparando per un saggio e dimostrare a tutti quanto stanno imparando…..

Ieri, giornata importante. Moses ed io abbiamo partecipato, come ospiti, alla sessione settimanale del Rotary Club a Jinja.

I Rotariani si riuniscono ogni mercoledì pomeriggio al Crested Crane Hotel.

La sala era piena, ci saranno state più di 50 persone. Quando sono stata invitata dalla Presidente a presentarmi, mi sono un po’ emozionata, ma, dopo essermi presentata come Ambasciatrice del Rotary Club Lunigiana e non come una “Rotariana”, ho spiegato in modo semplice e diretto il nostro progetto ed il perché fossi lì.

La Presidente mi ha poi invitata al suo tavolo dove ho consegnato, tra gli applausi, il banner che mi era stato affidato dal Rotary Club Lunigiana nonché il documento che avevo preparato con il progetto completo, quanto era stato già realizzato e quanto serve ancora per il completamento sottolineando che, se il Rotary Jinja supporterà questo progetto, il Rotary Lunigiana si unirà a loro con un ulteriore contributo. La Presidente ha promesso che leggerà attentamente tutto il documento e che mi farà sapere prima del mio ritorno in Italia.
